Overview

Everyone has a type of fungus (yeast) called Malassezia on their skin. It is natural and normally harmless. However, people with dandruff and a greasy skin condition called seborrhoeic dermatitis appear to have more Malassezia than usual.

ATMODRUFF Shampoo is used for?

Atmodruff shampoo contains a medicine called Ketoconazole. Ketoconazole is a type of antifungal medicine, which works by destroying Malassezia (and other fungi). Like other shampoos, it also contains ingredients to clean your hair. Ketoconazole is a synthetic , imidazole antifungal medication used primarily to treat fungal infections. Atmodruff shampoo is used for fungal infections on the scalp and body such as:
  • Dandruff
  • Dry or greasy scaling of the scalp and other parts of the body called 'seborrhoeic dermatitis'
  • White to brown patches on the body that sometimes appear after being in the sun called 'tinea versicolor' or 'pityriasis versicolor.

Indications

Ketoconazole shampoo 2% is indicated for the treatment and prevention of seborrhoeic dermatitis, pityriasis capitis (dandruff) and pityriasis versicolor that may be associated with the fungus Pityrosporum.

Warnings

In patients who have been on prolonged treatment with topical corticosteroids, it is recommended that the steroid therapy be gradually withdrawn over a period of 2 to 3 weeks, while using Ketoconazole Shampoo 2%, to prevent any potential rebound effect.
Ketoconazole Shampoo 2% may be irritating to mucous membranes of the eyes and contact with this area should be avoided. If Ketoconazole Shampoo 2% does get into the eyes, they should be bathed gently with cold water.
For external use only
Children and adolescents: Atmodruff Shampoo is not recommended for use in infants and children.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Atmodruff shampoo can be used if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Contraindications

Do not use Atmodruff shampoo if you are Allergic to Ketoconazole or any of the Excipients.

Side Effects

Stop using shampoo and tell your doctor straight away if you notice or suspect any of the following. You may need urgent medical treatment.

Allergic reaction, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing. This can affect fewer than 1 in 1000 people.
Severe irritation or reddening of the skin where the shampoo has been used, or other signs of allergy during the first few days of treatment. This can affect fewer than 1 in 100 people.
Peeling or blistering of the skin. This can affect fewer than 1 in 1000 people.

Dosage

Use the shampoo twice a week for 4 weeks followed by once weekly as maintance therapy or use as directed by the physician.

Keep out of reach of children.
Protect from heat & direct sunlight.

Pharmacology

Ketaconazole is a synthetic imidazole-dioxalane derivative. It is a broad spectrum antifungal agent which inhibits the growth of common dermatophytes and yeasts by altering the permeability of the cell membrane.
